WGCA Announces End of Season Awards; Zimo Li Named Division III WGCA Freshman of the Year

Emory University women's golf standout Zimo Li has been named as the Division III Women's Golf Coaches Association Freshman of the Year as the organization announced their end of season awards on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Along with Li's honor, the Eagles saw a number of recognitions pour through with All-Freshman and All-Region teams being announced. Rounding out the honors was head coach Liz Fernandes earning the Southeast Region Coach of the Year.  
 
Li becomes the second women's golf student-athlete to achieve the Freshman of the Year honor after senior Sharon Mun earned the title in 2022. Li, Mun and senior Ellen Dong earned All-America First Team honors while sophomore Esther Jung earned Honorable Mention. Both Li and teammate Covi Yan were also named to the All-Freshman Team.
 
Li has competed in eight events this season with the NCAA Championships this weekend being her ninth event. She is currently ranked second in the nation in the individual rankings while leading the team with a 72.4 average. She shot her two best events during the fall shooting a 140 (-4) at the Montgomery Women's Intercollegiate and a 210 (-6) at the Women's Golfweek October Classic. This season, she has finished in the top eight individually in each event she's competed in while never shooting five over par in any event during her rookie season.
 
Dong has also been having one of the best seasons of her career following Li with a 74.5 round average though seven events this year. Her best event came at the Deb Jackson Invitational where she shot a 144 (+2) to finish first in the competition. Earlier in the year at the Jekyll Island Collegiate tournament, she shot a 68 in the final round, tying the best round score in program history.
 
Mun is competing in her ninth event of the season this week at the NCAA Championships and is averaging a 74.9 round score through her eight completed events. Her best finish came at the Jekyll Island Collegiate tournament where she shot a 217 (+1) through three rounds including par through the first two rounds. She has also finished in the top 50 individually in each event she has competed in.
 
Finishing out the honors were sophomore Carys Code, Dong, Jung, Li, Mun and Yan all earning Region 2 Southeast All-Region recognition.
 
Code has been having a stellar sophomore season and currently sits in a tie for first at the NCAA Championships following the second round. She is averaging a round score of 76.2 and had her best event at the Westbrook Village Invitational where she shot a 147 (+5) in two rounds.
 
Jung is also having another great season during her sophomore year shooting a 75.9 round average. Earlier in the fall, she shot a 142 (-2) in two rounds at the 2024 Tartan Invitational to finish second in the event.
 
Yan is dominating her way through her rookie season earning herself a spot on the All-Freshman team. She has averaged a score of 75.3 this season with her best finish coming at the Westbrook Village Invitational. She shot a 70 in the first round and a 72 in round two for par finishing fourth in the tournament.
