The Emory University women's golf program began the Hollins Cup tournament a day early and holds down the top spot following the opening round. The tournament is being played at the 5,592 yard, 72 par Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California.
The Eagles hold a 12-stroke lead over their second place competition after shooting a 301 (+13) on day one. WashU finished the round in second with a 313 (+25) while west-coast competition Pomona-Pitzer holds down third place with a score of 317 (+29).
Junior
Carys Code continues her momentum during the fall season holding the top spot individually after shooting par on Sunday. She shot par on both the front and back nine totaling four birdies in the round.
Following her was sophomore
Zimo Li who finished third individually after the first round on Sunday with a 74 (+2). She shot one under on the front nine with two birdies before finishing with six birdies and three bogeys on the back nine.
Freshman
Xinyi Zheng and junior
Esther Jung also finished in the top-10 following the first round with just one stroke separating them. Zheng holds down the fourth spot on the individual leaderboard with a 77 (+5) and Jung takes seventh with a 78 (+6). Sophomore
Covi Yan was the final team competitor for the Eagles finishing in 22
nd following the opening round shooting an 81 (+9).
Freshman
Jida Chiravachradej had an impressive first round competing as an individual ranking 11
th on the leaderboard shooting a 79 (+7). After struggling with a 41 (+5) on the front nine, she shot seven pars and two bogeys on the back nine to finish her day.
