The Emory University women's golf program opened the final fall tournament of the season at the Historic Triangle Invitational. The tournament is being played at the 5,639 yard, 72 par Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The Eagles are currently in a first-place tie with Carnegie Mellon with a 299 (+11) while Denison holds down third place with a 305 (+17) score. All Eagles finished in the top-30 on the individual leaderboard.
Junior
Carys Code continues her impressive fall season finishing in second place with a first-round score of 71 (-1). She shot three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine before finishing with six pars and three birdies on the back nine.
Teammates
Xinyi Zheng and
Covi Yan both finished the day with a 75 (+3) to finish in a tie for 11
th on the individual leaderboard. Zheng shot two bogeys and two birdies on front nine and shot just one-over par on the back nine for a 75. Yan shot one-over on the front nine with six pars finishing with three bogeys and a birdie on the back nine.
Also finishing in a tie were teammates
Esther Jung and
Zimo Li. The duo both shot a 78 (+6) in the first round to finish in a tie for 27
th on the leaderboard. Jung shot just two pars on the front nine with four birdies and two bogeys before finishing the final nine holes with three bogeys to shoot a 78 (+6). Li shot a two-over on the front nine including two birdies and finished the back nine with six pars and two bogeys.
Competing individually was freshman
Jida Chiravachradej who shot a 77 (+5) to finish 22
nd on the leaderboard, one of her best rounds this season. She shot two birdies and five pars on the front nine before finishing with four bogeys and five pars on the back nine.
The Eagles will compete in the second round of the Historic Triangle Invitational on Tuesday, October 21.
