The Emory University women's golf program won their third straight tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Historic Triangle Invitational. Along with the team win, freshman
Xinyi Zheng earned her first collegiate win ending with a playoff on the 18
th hole.
The Eagles finished just one stroke in front of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans with a two-day score of 588 (+12) while Grinnell finished in third with a 605 (+29). The tournament was played at the 5,620 yard, 72 par Kingsmill Resort River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Zheng had the best round of her career so far shooting a 68 (-4) on Tuesday afternoon for a tie with CMU's Samantha Wang. Zheng shot four birdies and one bogey on the front nine and shot one under on the last nine holes to finish with a two-day score of 143 (-1). Zheng and Wang competed in a playoff on the 18
th hole with Zheng coming out on top for the individual title.
Junior
Carys Code added another top-three finish to her trophy case shooting par (144) following two rounds of competition. After shooting a 71 (-1) on Monday, she opened the first nine holes with two birdies and two bogeys before finishing with a bogey and eight pars on the back nine to shoot a 73 (+1) on Tuesday.
Also finishing in the top-10 was sophomore
Zimo Li who earned a sixth place finish on the leaderboard after shooting a 149 (+5). She played her best round of the tournament on Tuesday morning shooting two under on the front nine and finished with two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine for a 71 (-1) in the second round.
Finishing in a tie for 26
th on the individual leaderboard were teammates
Covi Yan and
Jida Chiravachradej who competed as an individual. Yan shot a 79 (+7) on Tuesday in round two after shooting four-over on the front nine and seven pars on the back nine. Chiravachredej competed as an individual and shot a 77 (+5) in the second round to finish with a 154 (+10) across the two days.
Also taking a top in the top-25 was junior
Esther Jung who shot a 155 (+11) across the two-day tournament. After shooting a 78 (+6) on Monday, Jung shot her best round on Tuesday with a 77 (+5) including nine pars and two birdies.
The Eagles will take a break during the winter before returning for the spring season in February.
