#4 Men’s Golf Rallies for Second-Place Finish at Capitol City Classic; Hanson Finishes Second

The No. 4 ranked Emory men's golf team wrapped up play at the Capitol City Classic on Tuesday afternoon, playing the second of two rounds at the event. The Eagles entered the day in sixth out of 18 teams but carded a dominant 281 (-7) in the final round to climb into second-place and bring home silver with a two round score of 574 (-2) . Junior Brian Hanson paved the way, shooting a bogey-free 66 (-6) in his final round and finished second-overall on the individual leaderboard. The event was hosted by Huntingdon College and played at RTJ Capitol Hill's Senator Course, which measured 7,243 yards and played as a Par-72.

The Eagles finished 13 strokes behind #2 Washington and Lee who won the event with a 561 (-15). #9 Huntingdon and #22 Gettysburg tied for third, shooting 578 (+2). Washington and Lee's Jonathan McEwen took first at the event after turning in a 134 (-10), narrowly edging out Hanson by three strokes.

Hanson strung together two clinical rounds over the past two days. The junior battled less than ideal conditions to shoot a 71 (-1) in his first round and came back with a vengeance on Tuesday. The junior shot a bogey-free round that featured four birdies and an eagle. Hanson's eagle was one of only seven recorded across all competitors, recording it on the 17th hole, a 515-yard Par 5. Hanson was one of the tournament's top golfers on Par 4s with an average score of 3.8 during his rounds. After 36 holes, Hanson recorded 26 pars, seven birdies, and one eagle. He finished with a 137 (-7) and second overall for the second time this season.

Senior Josh Qian was dialed in on Tuesday as well, carding a 68 (-4) to climb 31 spots on the leaderboard. He opened up his round with a bogey, but quickly turned things around and rattled off four straight birdies. He went on to record seven birdies in the round, along with three bogeys and eight pars. He finished tied for second among all golfers for the most birdies over two rounds, recording 10 over his 36 holes. Qian finished with an even 144 (E) and tied for 11th place.

Senior Michael Burry's second round saw him turn in a 72 (E), tapping in 13 pars. Burry recorded 11 pars and three bogeys in his first 14 holes but a couple of tough holes down the stretch saw his score sneak back up to even for the round. He finished his two rounds with a 146 (+2) and tied for 17th.

Sophomore Kevin Mu had a tough start to his Tuesday, recording a bogey on four of his first five holes. The Texan reigned things in, though, knocking in five birdies over the next 13 holes. He had a couple more bogeys and a double bogey mixed in down the stretch to see him finish with a 75 (+3) on Tuesday. Mu was tied for second in total birdies at the tournament with 10 as well. He finished with a 147 (+3) and tied for 24th.

Senior Tony Li had a very consistent day, notching 13 pars during his second round. He did turn in five bogeys, though, seeing him finish with a 77 (+5). His two-round total came to 154 (+10).

The Eagles will be off from competition this coming weekend before returning to the course for their home event, the Discover Dekalb Invitational, the following weekend. The tournament will be a 54-hole event spanning two days from Saturday, April 19th and Sunday, April 20th. It will take place at Cherokee Run Golf Club in Conyers, Georgia.
