The #7 ranked Emory men's golf team won the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational in dramatic fashion, winning on a birdie putt by
Kevin Mu on 18 to beat #6 Sewanee by one stroke. The Eagles put up a tournament total of 873 (+9) over three rounds to win their home event.
#6 Sewanee and #1 Huntingdon rounded out the podium as they shot an 874 (+10) and 881 (+17) respectively to take second and third.
Mu was also the individual title winner, shooting a 208 (-8) over three rounds to win by six strokes. The junior had an incredible final round, shooting a 68 (-4) with eight birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on the day.
Graduate student
Pearse Lucas came in second behind his teammate, shooting a 214 (-2) for the tournament with seven birdies and five bogeys.
Behind him was senior
Brian Hanson who came in 14
th with a 224 (+8) for the tournament after shooting two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Dru Devata came in next, finishing in 22
nd place after shooting 230 (+14) over the three rounds. The freshman shot two birdies, five bogeys and a pair of double bogeys to end the tournament.
Brady Lagendyk finished it off for the starting five, shooting a 234 (+18) for the tournament with five bogeys and a double bogey in his final round.
The second group of Eagles finished in sixth place with a 936 (+72) for the three-round total.
Dustin Miller led the group, shooting a 228 (+12) to land in 17
th place.
A trio of Eagles tied for 42
nd place as
Zach Pelzar,
Parker Shimp and
Tim Richter all shot a 239 (+23) over 54 holes.
Jack Nicoletta came in one stroke behind them, shooting a 240 (+24) with nine bogeys and a pair of double bogeys in his final round.
Independent athlete
Rafe Cochran came in 58
th to round out the leaderboard for the Eagles, shooting a 245 (+29) at Cherokee Run this weekend.
The Eagles will head to Howie in the Hills, FL on May 12 to begin their quest for a national championship.Â
