The #7 ranked Emory men's golf team had a stellar first day at their home tournament, tying for second with #1 Huntingdon with a team total 581 (+5) on the day.
Sewanee currently leads the field with a score of 575 to round out the top three.
Junior
Kevin Mu is going into day two at the top of the individual leaderboard, tying with Sewanee's Aidan Tudor with 140 (-4) over two rounds. He recorded four birdies and four bogeys in the first round before delivering a bogey-free second round with the same number of birdies.
Four strokes behind is grad transfer
Pearse Lucas who combined for 144 (E) on the day to land in seventh place. He shot seven birdies and six bogeys in the first round before putting up three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in the second round.
Behind him is
Brian Hanson who finished in 16
th at the end of day one with five birdies, eight bogeys and a double bogey over 36 holes to shoot a 144 (+5).
Freshman
Dru Devata finished two strokes behind Hanson with a 149 (+7). He had a turbulent first round with six birdies, three bogeys and three double bogeys but found his rhythm in the second round with two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.
Rounding out the starting five is
Brady Lagendyk who ended the day in 29
th place after shooting a 155 (+11). The junior delivered five birdies, ten bogeys and three double bogeys over the two rounds.
The second group of Eagles also delivered a great performance with a team total 603 (+27) to end the day in sixth.
Junior
Dustin Miller led the group, shooting a 146 (+2) to finish the day in eighth place, delivering only six birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey over 36 holes.
Behind him was
Jack Nicoletta who shot a 154 (+10) to end in 24
th. He shot six birdies and seven bogeys in the first round along with two birdies, six bogeys, a trio of double bogeys and an eagle on 18 to end the second round.
Tim Richter and
Parker Shimp each trail Nicoletta by one shot as they each delivered a 155 (+11) to tie for 29
th place with Lagendyk.
Zach Pelzar finished right behind them, finishing in 33
rd place with a 156 (+12) on the day.
Rounding out the leaderboard for the Eagles is independent athlete
Rafe Cochran who shot 157 (+13) to land in 42
nd place going into day two.
The Eagles will wrap up the tournament tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:45 a.m.
