Men's Golf Ends First Day of Capital City Classic in 8th Place

The #7 ranked Emory men's golf team played two rounds to begin the Capital City Classic Monday, ending the day in eighth place with a team total 594 (+18).

Host team Huntingdon is in the lead with 565 with Methodist and UAA foe Carnegie Mellon rounding out the top three.

Freshman Dru Devata is leading the Eagles going into day two as he shot 147 (+3) over two rounds. He struggled on the front nine in the first round, shooting four bogeys in a row across the first four holes, but the rookie bounced back as he shot his first collegiate Eagle, two birdies and two bogeys the rest of the round to shoot a 74 (+2). He improved by one shot in his second round, recording four bogeys and three birdies to end the day in 30th place.

Kevin Mu is one shot behind Devata, landing in 33rd place at the end of day one. He shot five bogeys and a single birdie in his first round, but the junior improved by four shots in the second round as he made par on every hole apart from two birdies and two bogeys.

Behind Mu is classmate Brady Lagendyk, who shot a 149 (+5) over the two rounds on day one. He had a turbulent first round with six bogeys, three birdies and two double bogeys to shoot a 79 (+7), but improved significantly in round two with four birdies and two bogeys to shoot a 70 (-2), ending the day in 38th place.

Senior Brian Hanson is one shot behind Lagendyk, ending in 40th place with a 150 (+6) total on the day. He shot a single birdie and six bogeys in his first round to shoot a 77 (+5), but found his rhythm in the second round, shooting four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey to improve by four shots to end the day.

Rounding out the leaderboard for the Eagles is grad transfer Pearse Lucas who shot a 155 (+11) on the day to finish in 63rd place. He shot a 79 (+7) in his first round with six bogeys, a birdie and a double bogey, but improved by three shots in the second round as he shot five bogeys and a birdie to end the day.

The Eagles will play the third and final round tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
