The No. 2 ranked Emory women's tennis team completed its run in the UAA Tournament on Saturday morning, playing in the UAA Championship match against the nation's No. 1 ranked Chicago. This was the 37
th consecutive UAA Championship Match the Eagles have participated. Meanwhile, Chicago was a three-time reigning champion heading into the weekend, with the Eagles looking to retake the UAA throne for the first time since 2019. Yet, Chicago's depth shone through in the win as the Maroons took a 4-0 victory over the Eagles. The match was played in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
This was the third time this season the two squads had met, having clashed in the ITA Indoor Championships as well as at Emory University's Woodruff P.E. Center. Chicago won the previous two matchups, yet the most recent matchup came down to the final point with Chicago earning a narrow win.
The Eagles were unable to come away with the doubles point in Saturday's matchup. Junior
Emily Kantrovitz and graduate student
Dakota Fordham were the first duo to fall, dropping their match on court one, 2-6. The Eagles brought things level, though, when juniors
Izzy Antanavicius and
Iris Berman earned a 6-4 win on court two.
It was a back and forth battle on court three, featuring sophomore
Yanire Marte and senior
Eliza McPherron for the Eagles. Despite a tough fight, the Maroons were able to pull out a win at 5-7 and take the doubles point for Chicago.
Playing to clinch, the Maroons were able to secure three wins and earn the UAA Title. Marte was dropped on court four (1-6, 1-6), McPherron on court five (2-6, 1-6), and Antanavicius on court two (1-6, 4-6). The remaining singles matches were suspended once the match had been clinched by the Maroons.
With the regular season and UAA tournament complete, the Eagles will now await to hear their NCAA postseason fate when the tournament field is released on Monday, May 5
