The No. 3 ranked Emory men's golf team concluded the final tournament of its regular season on Sunday, playing the final round of their home event at the Discover Dekalb Invitational. The Eagles put an exclamation mark on the end of their season, taking first at the event with a dominating three-round score of 878 (+14), 18 strokes better than second-place UT Dallas. Leading the charge was sophomore
Kevin Mu, who won the event with an eight-stroke cushion after turning in a 210 (-6). The Eagles fielded a second lineup at the event as well, finishing third with a 900 (+36). The event was played at Cherokee Run Golf Club's Par-72, 7,020-yard course in Conyers, Georgia.
Mu led the charge for the Eagles over the last two days, earning the first tournament win of his collegiate career. He followed up his record-setting second round 64 (-8) with a 71 (-1) to secure the win on Sunday. His round featured five birdies on Sunday, securing the resounding victory. He's put together a strong performance in three consecutive tournaments now, recording a top-25 finish in each tournament.
Close behind Mu was his classmate,
Brady Lagendyk, who capped off his tournament with a 73 (+1) on Sunday, tapping in three birdies and 12 pars in the round. His three round score came to 218 (+2) and marked his best tournament of the spring with a second-place finish.
Senior
Josh Qian wrapped up his tournament with an 84 (+12). He entered the day a few strokes off the lead, but had a couple of holes that saw his score balloon. A 10 on the eighth hole, a 530-yard Par-5, put a blemish on an otherwise very strong tournament for Qian. He finished in 13
th place with a 228 (+12).
Senior
Nicholas Nautiyal concluded his Emory career with a very strong 75 (+3) on Sunday, bringing his score to 228 (+12). He turned in three rounds where he did not record a score worse than bogey on a single hole. He finished tied for 14
th place.
Freshman
Zach Pelzar finished out his tournament with a 79 (+7) on Sunday. Senior
Logan Lowery rounded out the scores for the B Lineup, finishing with a 233 (+17) over his three rounds, carding an 80 (+8) on Sunday.
Competing with the C lineup, senior
Prayaag Oruganti capped off his tournament with a surge up the individual leaderboard, carding a team-best 69 (-3) on Sunday. He tapped in five birdies and an eagle to negate two bogeys and a double bogey. He finished with a strong 222 (+6) and tied for 8
th place.
Freshman
Rafe Cochran finished his tournament with a 76 (+4) on Sunday. He had an up and down front nine, but recorded seven pars on his back half of the round. He finished tied for 10
th with a 223 (+7).
Sophomore
Dustin Miller also turned in a top-15 finish, tying for 13
th with a 228 (+12). Miller had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, shooting a 73 (+1). His final round featured 13 pars, two birdies, and three bogeys.
Junior
Parker Shimp finished up his Sunday with an 83 (+11) on Sunday. He compiled a 233 (+17) and finished tied for 32
nd.
Freshman
Tim Richter had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, turning in a 77 (+5). He knocked in an eagle in his round, tapping in on the 510-yard Par-5 on hole 14. He finished with a 241 (+25) and tied for 50
th.
This concludes the regular season for the Eagles, as they now shift their focus to postseason play. The NCAA National Championships will take place over four days, starting on Tuesday, May 20
th and concluding on Friday, May 23
rd. The event will take place in Rochester, New York this year.
