The Emory University women's golf program took home a third place finish at the annual Max and Susan Stith Invitational. The tournament was being played at the Dominion Club, a 72 par, 5,646 yard course in Glen Allen, Virginia.
The Eagles finished the second round shooting a team score of 311 (+23), the best score of the round, for a total score of 615 (+39) to finish the tournament in the top three. The No. 1 Carnegie Mellon Tartans took home the trophy while NYU took second to round out the top three teams.
The best finish for the Eagles came from freshman
Zimo Li who finished in a tie for third in the individual rankings. After shooting a 73 (+1) in the first round, she shot a 76 (+4) on Tuesday for a total score of 149 (+5). Li opened the second round with a birdie on hole one following with six more pars in the round. She finished with six more pars on the back nine to secure her place in the top three.
Senior
Sharon Mun also shot a 76 (+4) on Tuesday afternoon after her 75 (+3) on Monday to finish with a total score of 151 (+7). She opened the front nine with seven pars followed by six pars and a birdie on the final nine holes of the tournament. Her score of 151 placed her in a tie for 10
th in the individual rankings.
Shooting her best round of the tournament on Tuesday was fellow senior
Ellen Dong. She totaled 13 pars in the second round, seven to finish the tournament, while posting her only birdie on the second hold. She followed one stroke behind Mun and finished in a tie for 12
th with a score of 152 (+8).
The final Eagles earning a score in the tournament was sophomore
Carys Code who finished the tournament in a tie for 46
th with a score of 163 (+19). Code totaled three birdies in the second round including two on the back nine. She struggled on the front nine to open the day but finished strong with two pars and two birdies on the back nine holes.
Finishing up the tournament for the Eagles was sophomore
Esther Jung who finished in a tie for 53
rd with a score of 165 (+21) after two rounds of competition. She had two pars on the front nine but finished strong on the last nine holes with five pars and a birdie for an 84 (+12) on the day.
The Eagles will take this weekend off before hosting the Emory Invitational beginning on Sunday, April 13 in Douglasville, Georgia.
