Women’s Golf Finishes Westbrook Invitational with Third Place Finish

The Emory University women's golf program saw another top-three finish this season finishing competition at the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday afternoon.


The Eagles took home a third place finish with a team score of 573 (+7) after shooting their best round of competition at the Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Arizona. George Fox took the top spot with a 566 (E) team score while Claremont-M-S finished second just two shots behind the leaders after shooting a tournament-best five under on Sunday.
 
Freshman Covi Yan continued her dominating performance at the tournament on Sunday afternoon shooting a 72 (+1) to finish with a score of 141 (E). She got off to a slower start on the front nine posting five pars before scoring three birdies and six pars on the back nine. Yan finished fourth among individual competitors, the best finish from Emory at the tournament.
 
Following right behind was senior Sharon Mun who also had one of her best tournaments of the season. She posted a score of 144 (+2) after shooting a 72 (+1) in the second round on Sunday. Mun shot two over on the front nine along with two birdies before posting eight straight pars on the back nine. She finished the 18th hole with a birdie to secure her spot in a tie for eighth.
 
Also finishing in eighth was freshman Zimo Li after she shot her best round on Sunday. She shot a 70 (-1) in the second round including four birdies and just three bogeys. Similar to Mun, Li posted a total score of 144 (+2) after her impressive round on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Esther Jung also had her best performance of the tournament in the second round on Sunday afternoon shooting a 71 (E) after struggling in the first round on Saturday. She opened the front nine with five pars and two birdies and shot one-under before shooting one over on the back nine with another three birdies. Jung finished in a tie for 26th among individual performers with a total score of 151 (+9).
 
Sophomore Carys Code rounded out the team competition shooting a 73 (+2) on Sunday afternoon in the second round. She notched an even front nine with seven pars and a birdie before going two over on the back nine. Code finished 15th among individuals with a score of 147 (+5).
 
Senior Ellen Dong also competed at the tournament as an individual alongside teammate Derica Chiu. Dong notched a total score of 146 (+4) after matching Yan with a 70 (-1) in round two on Sunday to finish in a tie for 12th on the individual leaderboard. Chiu also had her best round of the tournament with a 75 (+4) in round two to finish in a tie for 42nd with a score of 156 (+14).
 
The Eagles will be back for competition on Saturday, March 15 as they travel to the Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia.
