After the first day of competition at the Westbrook Invitational, the Emory University women's golf program sits in second place behind host George Fox. The tournament is being held at the Westbrook Village Golf Club, a Par 71, 5,810 yard course in Peoria, Arizona.
With one round completed on Saturday the Eagles are in second place shooting a team score of 290 (+6), just five strokes back of first place. George Fox currently holds the top spot shooting a 285 (+1) while Claremont-M-S rounds out the top three just one stroke behind Emory.
Teeing off first this morning, freshman
Covi Yan sits in a tie for third place among individual competitors after the first round. After shooting eight pars on the front nine, she shot just three pars and four birdies on the back nine placing her -2 on the back nine to finish the day. Yan will enter the second round with a score of 70 (-1).
Senior
Sharon Mun turned in one of her best performances of the spring on Saturday morning as she currently sits in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. Following seven pars and two birdies on the front nine, she entered the back nine in a tie for third place. Mun finished the back nine shooting three-over for a total score of 72 (+1) entering round two on Sunday.
Sophomore
Carys Code also finished the first round in the top 15 on the individuals side. She shot seven pars on the front nine before opening the back nine with a birdie. Code finished in the afternoon with a 36 on the final nine holes for a total score of 74 (+3) to enter Sunday in a tie for 12
th.
Freshman
Zimo Li continued her impressive rookie season shooting right alongside Code to finish in a tie for 12
th place after the first round. She finished the first nine holes shooting one-over and also shot a birdie on hole 10 to open the back nine. Li also shot a 37 on the final nine holes for a total score of 74 (+3).
Sophomore
Esther Jung rounded out the team competitors for the Eagles finishing the first round in a tie for 41
st. She shot a 42 on the front nine struggling through the first two holes but recovered to shoot a 38 on the back nine. Jung notched a score of 80 (+9) after one day.
Senior
Ellen Dong and sophomore
Derica Chiu both competed at the tournament as individuals both turning in impressive performances. Dong had the second-best front nine score from Emory shooting a 36 (E) before shooting four pars and a birdie on the back nine to finish with a score of 76 (+5). She will enter the second day in a tie for 18
th. Chiu started strong with a birdie on the first hold before scoring five more pars on the front nine. She followed with five more pars on the back nine for a score of 81 (+10) and sits in a tie for 45
th.
The Eagles will return for the final round of the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday, March 9 with the first tee time at 7:39 AM MST/9:39 AM EST.
