The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's tennis team bounced back Sunday afternoon taking on the No. 17 ranked WashU Bears in the third and final match against UAA competition this weekend in Atlanta.
After earning a win on Friday against No. 6 Carnegie Mellon and dropping a heartbreaker to top-ranked Chicago yesterday, the Eagles rounded out their conference weekend with a 4-3 win over the Bears. With the win, Emory will carry an 11-3 record into April while the loss drops WashU to 8-5 on the season.Â
The Eagles, who were swept in doubles by the Maroons on Saturday, righted the ship on Sunday with a pair of wins to start the match with the doubles point. Helping to clinch the win were the tandem of graduate student
Dakota Fordham and junior
Emily Kantrovitz on court two as they secured a 6-3 win, and the pairing of senior
Eliza McPherron and sophomore
Yanire Marte on court three as they improved to 12-1 with a 6-4 decision.
With the doubles point in the bag, the Eagles needed just three wins across the singles lineup to pull through with the win.
Kantrovitz notched her 10th consecutive win with an impressive performance on the top line, handing her WashU counterpart a 6-1, 6-1 setback. The final two wins for the Eagles came via three-set results as McPherron and junior
Iris Berman came through with the clinching decisions.
Both Eagles dropped their opening sets before rebounding for the victories. Berman was 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner on court three and McPherron recorded the 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) triumph on court five.
Emory is set to return to the courts on Friday, April 11th as the team hosts No. 20 Babson College at 2:00 PM in Atlanta.
