The Emory University women's golf program moved into first place after the second round of the Jekyll Island Women's Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The course is being played at the 72 par, 5,601 yard King and Prince Golf Course in St. Simon Island, Georgia.
The Eagles took over first on Saturday showing a 298 (+10) for a total score of 595. Sitting just three strokes back is Carnegie Mellon who posted a score of 304 (+16) in the second round for a team score of 598. Remaining in third is Wellesley with a team score of 604.
Senior
Sharon Mun dominated the course today now sitting alone at the top of the leaderboards. She shot eight pars on the front nine to begin the day with a 37 (+1) before notching three birdies and four pars on the back nine to stay even at 72 for the round and a 144 total score.
Moving up in the ranks on Saturday was freshman
Zimo Li who jumped up to a tie for seventh after shooting a 73 (+1) in the second round. She shot one under on the front nine to begin the day and posted seven pars on the back nine. After two rounds, she holds a total score of 149 (+5).
Right up there with Mun was sophomore
Carys Code who also recorded 12 pars in the second round on Saturday. She struggled on the front nine with four pars and a birdie before opening the back nine with eight straight pars. She holds a score of 153 (+9) and is in a tie for 20
th entering Sunday.
Freshman
Covi Yan followed one stroke behind Code today shooting a 77 (+5) following her 77 yesterday to rank in a tie for 24
th with a score of 154 (+10). She also struggled on the front nine to open the afternoon before notching two birdies and three pars on the back nine to finish the round.
Rounding out the competition was senior
Ellen Dong who will enter the third round in a tie for 14
th with a score of 151 (+7). She was the final Eagle to tee off on Saturday opening the first nine holes with five pars and a birdie before shooting six pars on the back nine for a score of 79 (+7) in the second round.
The Eagles will complete the tournament on Sunday, March 23 with the first tee time beginning at 8:55 AM.
