The Emory University women's golf program had an impressive opening round of the Jekyll Island Women's Invitational on Friday afternoon in St. Simon Island, Georgia. The tournament is being played on the 72 par, 5,601 yard King and Prince Golf Course.
 
The Eagles finished nine over par on Friday afternoon in the opening round with a team score of 297. The reigning national champion Carnegie Mellon Tartans hold the top spot with a team score of 294 (+6) while Wellesley finished third with a score of 306 (+18).
 
Teammates Sharon Mun and Ellen Dong both had memorable first rounds sitting in a tie for second after day one with a score of 72 (E). Dong kicked things off for the Eagles shooting the most par with 16 on the day. She had a bogey on the ninth hold to shoot +1 on the front before landing a birdie on the 17^th hole to finish even after round one.
 
Mun was the second Eagle to tee off on Friday also shooting a +1 on the front nine with two bogeys and a birdie. She switched things up on the back nine with six pars and two birdies for a 35 (-1) on the final nine to finish with a 72 (E).
 
Freshman Zimo Li had the next best finish for the Eagles shooting a 76 (+4) on the first day of the tournament. She struggled on the front nine shooting a 40 (+4) before shooting par on the back nine with a bogey and a birdie. Li will enter the second day in a tie for 16^th.
 
Teammates Covi Yan and Carys Code rounded out the day for Emory both finishing the day in a tie for 21^st individually with a score of 77 (+5). Yan had five pars on the first nine holes shooting four over and finished with an impressive outing on the back nine to finish with a 77 on the day.
 
Code finished the day for the Eagles with a 77 (+5) going one over on the front nine with a birdie and six pars. She shot four over on the back nine finishing in a tie for 21^st individually.
 
The Eagles will compete in the second round of the Jekyll Island Women's Invitational on Saturday with the first tee time at 12:20 PM.
