The No. 5 ranked Emory men's golf team concluded play at the Tiger Invitational on Monday, playing its second round at the event. Competing at the Forest Creek Golf Club's 6,701-yard, Par-72 course in Pinehurst, North Carolina, the Eagles shot a 294 (+6) in the second round of the event. The Eagles finished with a two-round score of 583 (+7), slipping to a fourth-place finish at the event.
#2 Methodist took first with ease at the event, shooting a 567 (-9) and winning the event with an 11-stroke cushion over second-place Babson which shot a 578 (+2). #5 Sewanee had the best score of any team in the second round, shooting a 282 (-6) to climb five spots and round out the top three with a third-place finish. Methodist's Chase Walts ran away with the individual title, shooting a 134 (-10) to win the event.
Sophomore
Kevin Mu was the lone Eagle to shoot under par on Monday, carding a 71 (-1). Mu was two over par on his front nine before recording four straight pars to start the back half of his round. Mu put on a late surge, recording four birdies over his final five holes to finish with a two-round score of 144 (E) and tied for 12
th place. The sophomore was tied for second among all players in total birdies with nine. Mu was Emory's top finisher on the individual leaderboard.
Freshman
Zach Pelzar experienced the most significant rise on the individual leaderboard on Monday, shooting a 73 (+1) in his second round. Like Mu, he had a strong finish to his round with three birdies over his final four holes. He finished with a two-round score of 151 (+7) and moved up 16 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 46
th.
Junior
Brian Hanson finished his tournament shooting a 75 (+3) in his second round. His round featured five bogeys and two birdies to bring his 36-hole total to 146 (+2). Hanson finished tied for 21
st on the individual leaderboard.
Senior
Tony Li also shot a 75 (+3) on Monday, but his round was a bit more consistent. Li continued to rack up pars, with 15 in his second round. He finished third among all golfers in total pars with 28. Yet, a triple bogey on his 15h hole saw his score rise over par. He finished at 150 (+6) and tied for 39
th.
Senior
Michael Burry struggled in his round on Monday, shooting a 77 (+5). He knocked in two birdies, but five bogeys and a double bogey forced his score well over par. He finished his tournament with a score of 147 (+3) and tied for 27
th overall.
Senior
Josh Qian and sophomore
Brady Lagendyk competed as individuals in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational. The event was played at 6,974-yard, Par-72 course at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in Whispering Pines, North Carolina.
Qian shot a 74 (+2) on Monday with three birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey. He finished his event with a 150 (+6) and tied for ninth. Lagendyk matched his day one score with another 76 (+4) to finish at 152 (+8). The sophomore's second round featured four birdies, two bogeys and three double bogeys. He finished tied for 18
th.
The Eagles will return to Georgia for their next event when they compete in the Oglethorpe Spring Invitational. They'll have a little over a week off before they head to Jekyll Island, Georgia to compete in the 54-hole event which will start on Friday, March 21
st and conclude on Sunday, March 23
