Freshman Solly Berkenwald headlined Emory University divers Saturday afternoon in NCAA regional competition as the rookie won his second regional title in as many days at the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championships at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
After taking home the regional crown on Friday in the 3-meter, Berkenwald was on the top of his game once again as he completed the sweep with a win on the 1-meter board. Berkenwald was the lone diver in the field of 19 to eclipse 500 points as he won the event with a score of 519.85. The win solidifies his NCAA resume as he'll join his Eagle teammates at the NCAA Championships later this month in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In the women's 3-meter event, junior Ren Watt made her case to join the Eagles in Greensboro as she claimed one of the NCAA regional allocations with her performance on Saturday. Watt finished second in the event with a score of 439.40 to earn one of the remaining five allocations.
Elsewhere in the event, freshmen Maya Kriz (372.30) and Maddi Grant (369.10) finished in the ninth and 10th positions in the 22-diver field and Friday's 1-meter champion, senior Ariana Khan, was 22nd as she scored 202.25 across six dives.
NCAA participants will become official in the coming weeks before the team heads to nationals March 19-22.
