The Emory University women's tennis program fell in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Championships, 5-2, against the No. 1 ranked Chicago Maroons on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee.
The No. 5 ranked Eagles reached the semifinals after defeating the No. 3 ranked Wesleyan University Cardinals on Friday afternoon in the opening rounds with junior
Izzy Antanavicius clinching the win in her singles match, 4-3.
Emory's first win came from doubles taking two of the three matches in just under an hour. Senior
Dakota Fordham and junior
Emily Kantrovitz fought a tough battle on court one before falling 6-3. Ending at the same time, juniors Antanavicius and
Iris Berman clinched their match on court two with a 6-1 decision forcing the decision to court three. Sophomore
Yanire Marte and senior
Eliza McPherron took their match on court three with a 7-5 decision to clinch the doubles point for Emory.
The Maroons evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-2,6-3 on court two before taking a 2-1 lead with another win on court six. Kantrovitz took her match on court one with a 7-6, 6-3 decision to even the match again at 2 apiece. The Maroons ended with wins soon after on courts three, four and five to clinch the match and advance to the championship match on Sunday.
The Eagles will face Pomona-Pitzer in the third place match on Sunday, March 2 at 11:30 AM EST.
