Following a series of exhibition matches, the No. 7 ranked Emory University men's tennis team officially returned to the courts for the start of the spring season and easily took care of business at home against Oglethorpe University, 7-0, Friday afternoon on the indoor courts of the WoodPEC in Atlanta.
In doubles competition, the Eagles saw victories on two of the three courts to claim the doubles point. Junior Dean Kamenev and sophomore Christian Liew secured a 6-2 win at the second position while graduate students Efe Comu and Charley Force formed a formidable combo at the No. 3 spot for a 6-1 triumph.
The Eagles continued to roll in singles as Emory swept all six matches via straight sets. Freshman Ruilin Feng picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the top line with Force adding a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 position, freshman Alec Anghel earned a 6-2, 6-2 decision and junior John Lasanajak was a 6-1, 6-1 winner on court four.
The Eagles rounded out the match with strong performances at the final two spots with newcomers Ajay Kartik posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court five and Joshua Lai impressed with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing on court six.
Emory is back at home next Saturday, February 15th with a match against NAIA power Tennessee Wesleyan University. First serve is slated for 2:00 PM in Atlanta.
