The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's tennis team won its fourth straight match to open the spring on Friday as they took care of business at home against Berry College, 7-0.
The Eagles began the afternoon with a sweep of doubles that lasted just over 30 minutes. At the top doubles spot, juniors Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman posted a 6-1 decision, as did junior Izzy Antanavicius and sophomore Yanire Marte on court two. The duo of senior Eliza McPherron and freshman Rachel Hernandez concluded the sweep with a 6-0 blitzing on court three.
In singles, Emory continued to roll over its North Georgia counterparts by taking all six matches in straight sets.
For the second straight match, Berman turned in an impressive 6-0, 6-0 result as she won at the No. 3 spot while McPherron followed suit with her own 6-0, 6-0 decision on the No. 5 line. On courts four and six, both Marte and Hernandez dropped one game each with Marte prevailing 6-0, 6-1 on court four and Hernandez recording a 6-1, 6-0 win at the sixth spot.
Kantrovitz was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at the No. 1 position and at the No. 2 spot, Antanavicius was ahead 6-4, 3-0 before her opponent had to retire due to injury.
The Eagles look to keep the momentum going as they conclude their weekend at home on Sunday with top 20 showdown against No. 18 Sewanee. First serve from the WoodPEC Indoor Courts is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
