#7 Men’s Tennis Trounces Tennessee Wesleyan, 4-3, at Home

The No. 7 Emory men's tennis team (2-0) kept its spring season rolling on Saturday, taking on NAIA powerhouse Tennessee Wesleyan. After sweeping the doubles matches and securing the doubles point, the Eagles split the singles portion of the day to win the match, 4-3.

Sophomore Christian Liew and freshman Ruilin Feng had strong days, teaming up on court two to win their doubles match before both went on to win their singles matches. Liew and Feng took their doubles match in a 7-5 decision. Feng, competing in the No. 2 position, won his match in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-4). Liew was on court three, facing off with Tennessee Wesleyan's Patricio Gallegos. Despite dropping the first set, 6-7, Liew battled back to win the following two, 6-4 and 6-2, to win the bout.

Graduate student Efe Comu kept things rolling to start his Emory career, joining up with fellow graduate student Charlie Force for doubles play on court three. The pair of grad students also played to a 7-5 decision, helping secure the match's doubles point for the Eagles. The Eagles sent Comu out to play in the No. 1 position for singles, taking on the Bulldogs' Juan Carlos Garcia. Comu earned his first dual singles match win as an Eagle, winning in two sets, both ending in 6-4 decisions.

Freshman Ajay Kartik and junior Dean Kamenev were the final tandem in the doubles portion of Saturday's match, playing on court one. The two pulled out a 7-5 win as well, completing the doubles sweep over the Bulldogs.

After the Eagles took the singles matches on courts one, two, and three to earn the win, the Bulldogs secured the remaining three points up for grabs. Kamenev fell on court four (2-6, 2-6) and Force dropped his match on court five as well (1-6, 3-6). Junior John Lasanajak got in on the action, playing in the No. 6 position, but fell in two sets as well (4-6, 5-7).

The Eagles will now shift their focus to the ITA Indoor National Championships, which will take place next weekend. The event will be held in St. Peter, Minnesota on Gustavus Adolphus' campus. The Eagles won the event last year and will enter this year's bracket as the No. 4 overall seed. They'll take on the No. 5 seed, Denison, on Friday, February 21st at 4:30 PM.
