Emory Men Maintain UAA Lead Behind Four More Event Titles

The Emory University men's swimming & diving team captured four event titles Friday evening to help maintain its lead at the 2025 UAA Championships in Atlanta.

With the four event championships on day three, the Eagles will be able to take a sizeable lead heading into the fourth and final day on Saturday. Through three days of competition, Emory owns 1,168 points and holds a 55.5-point advantage over second place NYU (1,112.5). Chicago stands third with 1,013 points.

Saturday saw the Eagles earn the most hardware of any of the nights so far this week with four event crowns.

Freshman Solly Berkenwald solidified his spot as the diving king of the UAA as he won the 3-meter to complete sweep on the boards. Berkenwald excelled across the final rounds as he finished with a score of 573.10.

Senior Jeff Echols secured the lone All-UAA finish during the first two swimming events of the evening session as he took third in the 100 Butterfly at 48.04. The Eagles had just four scoring finishes across the 400 IM and 100 Fly.

Despite the slow start, the Eagles were able to make up the difference in the 200 Freestyle with eight swimmers placing inside the top-23 overall. Sophomore McKee Thorsen highlighted the contingent with his first-ever conference title as he turned in a winning mark of 1:37.65.

Winning ways continued in the next event as junior Henri Bonnault and senior Liyang Sun garnered conference acclaim with the top two finishes in the 100 Breaststroke. Bonnault won his first-ever conference title with a time of 52.71 while Sun earned All-UAA honors for the first time in the event as he touched at 53.72 to win silver.

In the final individual event of the night, senior Adam Braunschweig headlined six Eagles inside the top 15 as he took fourth overall with a time of 48.51.

The Eagles ended the night in grand fashion as Emory claimed its second relay win of the meet as Bonnault, Echols and seniors Nolan Lahmann and Dylan Yin won the 200 Medley Relay at 1:27.81. The Eagles added much needed points in the consolation final of the event as Braunschweig, Sun, junior Patrick Horton and senior Johnny Bradshaw won the B Final with a time of 1:28.70.

The Eagles, looking for their 26th consecutive UAA Championship, will shoot for the podium finish once more on Saturday with a final day slate featuring the women's 1-meter, 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
