Four Eagles Chosen as UAA Athletes of the Week for December 1-7

Four Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their standout performances during the week of December 1-7.

Junior Madison Teng was named to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships All-Tournament Team after leading Emory to a berth in the national championship. Teng scored in each of the Eagles' final two games of the season, helping defeat Tufts 3-0 on Thursday before netting a goal in the national title match against WashU which the Bears won 2-1.

Junior McKee Thorsen was one of Emory's top performers this past week as the swimming teams competed against Denison and Depauw at the Denison Invitation in Granville, Ohio. Thorsen was a two-time individual event winner as he swept the Butterfly events with times of 47.96 in the 100 and 1:46.86 in the 200 during finals. Thorsen added a fifth place effort in the finals of the 200 IM (1:49.00) and was fifth in the prelims of the 100 Breaststroke (55.52 – did not compete in finals). Thorsen was also part of three top three finishes in the relay events, aided the efforts of second place finishes for the Eagles in the 800 Freestyle (6:37.63) and 400 Freestyle (2:57.96), swimming the anchor leg in both races to help achieve NCAA B Cuts in both. Thorsen also was the anchor leg in Emory's B team in the 200 Freestyle Relay that finished third at 1:21.37.

Sophomore Elodie Mitchell collected a pair of individual event wins for the Eagles as Emory won the Denison Invitational on the women's side. Mitchell took the top spot on consecutive days in the 200 Freestyle (1:50.54) and 200 Fly (2:00.58) and was a second place finisher in the 500 Freestyle on night one with a time of 4:55.44. Mitchell also aided in the relay efforts as she was part of the Eagles' A group in the 800 Freestyle, swimming anchor as the team finished second at 7:26.16, and was also the anchor leg in the 400 Freestyle as Emory's B team took third at 3:26.62.

Sophomore Solly Berkenwald was a top performer this weekend as Emory sent its contingent of divers to the MIT Invitational in Cambridge, MA. Berkenwald appeared in just one event for the Eagles but was impressive non-the-less as he took first place in the 3-meter with a dominating performance, scoring 514.90 and was the lone diver in the field of 11 to score over 500.
