The Emory University swimming teams continued their week in Granville, Ohio with the second day of the Denison Invitational. At the end of two full days of competition, the Eagles lead the women's scoring with 1,808 points wheras the men trail Denison by 227 points, totaling 1,645 points at the end of Friday.
Day two finals' session saw the Eagles capture eight event wins including five on the men's side of the meet. Furthermore, Emory threw down some fast times across the 14 events with the team combining for 27 NCAA B Cut times.
For the men, four different swimmers recorded wins with the team adding a relay victory for Friday's standouts. The Thorsen brothers opened the individual events with back-to-back wins with
Crow Thorsen dropping 3:53.98 for the win in the 400 IM before
McKee Thorsen led a trio of Eagles inside the top three with a winning time of 47.96 in the 100 Fly. Senior
Henri Bonnault sailed to a victory in the 100 Breaststroke at 53.41 and in the 100 Backstroke,
Zachary Spicer notched a win at 48.16.
The evening started with the group of Bonnault,
Colin Zexter,
Satya Agashiwala and
Hayden Tupper going for 1:27.94 to win the 200 Medley Relay with the Eagles two of the top three spots in the event.
On the women's side, the Eagles saw three different swimmers collect event wins to highlight the evening. The Eagles had a showcase in both in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke events with sophomore
Elodie Mitchell pacing four Eagles with NCAA B Cuts inside the top six, taking first at 1:50.54, and in the 100 Backstroke, Emory secured four of the top five positions with
Penny Celtnieks out-touching her teammates at 55.30. Sophomore
Allison Greeneway added a win in the 100 Fly as she touched with a winning mark of 55.08.
The Emory women added two second place finishes in the relays with the group of Celtnieks, Greeneway,
Katie Cohen and
Ava Kennedy turning in a time of 1:41.95 in the 200 medley Relay and in the 800 Freestyle Relay, Mitchell along with
Emma Lunn,
Natalie Boorjian and
Katherine Swan posted a time of 7:26.16. The Emory men added a second place finish of their own in the distance relay with the team of Tupper, M. Thorsen,
Sven Becker and
Graham Zucker combining for 6:37.63.
The Denison Invitational will conclude on Saturday with the final events. Prelims start at 10:00 AM followed by finals in the evening.
