The Emory University swimming & diving teams were back in the pool Friday night as Emory hosted night one of its two-day Fall Invitational at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center. The Eagles welcomed four additional squads to the WoodPEC to compete across the two sessions.
Emory had a stellar first night of events with Eagles claiming 12 first place finishes out of the 18 events that took place. Furthermore, Emory swimmers notched 20 NCAA B Cuts. Competing alongside the Eagles were athletes from Carson-Newman, Wingate, Georgia Southern and SCAD.
Seven first place efforts came from the women's meet as the Eagles swept both relay events and added five individual wins.
Turning in wins for the Gold caps were sophomore Allison Greeneway in the 200 IM (2:02.80), junior Katherine Swan in the 500 Freestyle (4:56.91), sophomore Maddy Lu (1:02.87), sophomore Caitlin Crysel in the 100 Freestyle (50.64) and sophomore Elodie Mitchell in the 200 Fly (2:01.58). Four of the wins came in under NCAA B Cut marks.
In the relays, the Emory A group touched at 1:33.56 in the 200 Freestyle Relay while the A squad in the 400 Medley recorded a winning time of 3:46.12.
On the men's side of the meet, the Eagles saw winning performances by freshman Carson Kalish in the 200 IM (1:48.44), senior Henri Bonnault in the 100 Breaststroke (52.96), junior McKee Thorsen in the 200 Fly (1:47.51) and sophomore Solly Berkenwald in the 3-meter (520.88). All three swimming efforts were NCAA B qualifying marks.
The Eagles added a win in the 200 Free Relay when the A group touched at 1:21.09.
The Emory Fall Invitational will conclude Saturday morning with Session II getting underway at 11:00 AM.
