Six Eagles Honored as UAA Athletes of the Week for Nov. 17-23

Six Emory University Eagles were honored Monday afternoon as they were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week.

Sophomore Mikayla Camp had a stellar weekend in Virginia as she led the Eagles to their second straight appearance in the Final Four, scoring three of the team's four goals in Lexington, Virginia. On Saturday, Camp netted a brace in the team's 3-1 win over Johns Hopkins as she scored in both halves including the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute. Camp then added the lone goal in the 17th minute on Sunday as Emory blanked Pomona-Pitzer, 1-0, in the national quarterfinals.

On defense, senior Sophia Garcia made a total of eight saves to help the Eagles return to the national semifinals.  Garcia tallied four saves on Saturday with three coming in the second half as the Eagles topped the Blue Jays. On Sunday, Garcia again made four saves with three in the first half as she picked up another clean sheet in the 1-0 win over the Pomona-Pitzer to book a trip to Salem.

Junior Geoffrey Halpern excelled for the Eagles between the posts this weekend, leading the men's soccer team to its first-ever NCAA DIII Final Four. Halpern recorded a pair of shutouts as the Eagles scored positive results against Rowan and Dickinson and made a total of 10 saves between the two contests. On Saturday, Halpern made four stops in the team's 2-0 win over the Profs before making a season-high six saves as the Red Devils peppered 14 shots (6 on goal) across the second half and overtime periods in the Eagles' eventual win in penalty kick following a scoreless 110 minutes.

Graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu paced the Eagles in shots taken during the sectional rounds, tallying a team-leading 11 attempts across the two games. Out of the 11 attempts, Cubeddu put four on goal. On Sunday, Cubeddu had the game-winning penalty kick as the Eagles defeated Dickinson, 4-3, in the shootout to advance to Salem.

Freshman Tatum Olson helped the Eagles to their first 100-point game of the season on Sunday afternoon against Rhodes College. She scored 23 points in just 21 minutes, continuing to beat her career high in each game, while shooting 5-6 (83.3%) from beyond the arc and 9-14 (64.2%) from the field. Olson also registered a steal, a block and two offensive rebounds in the win.

Junior Ethan Fauss returned from injury in a huge way on Saturday as he stuffed the stat sheet in Emory's 103-97 comeback win at Guilford. In 33 minutes, Fauss netted 20 points while setting career highs with 11 rebounds, six assists and six blocks. Fauss shot 8-for-17 from the field and knocked down a pair of three pointers.
