Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: 11/19 - 11/26

Women's Soccer:
Emory women's soccer is headed to Lexington, VA for their Sweet 16 match against Johns Hopkins. The match will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's Elite Eight game at 1:00 p.m.

The Eagles had a dominant start to their postseason run, earning two more shutout wins as they took down CCS Champion Belhaven in round one 6-0 and Rhodes College 2-0 in round two to advance to the Sweet 16. With their win on Sunday, the team achieved a program record for most wins in a single season as they recorded their 18th victory this season. This is also the 19th time the Eagles have recorded ten or more shutout wins in a season and are one shy of tying the program record for shutout wins in a season (16; 2011).

Men's Soccer:
Emory men's soccer will return to Virginia this weekend for their Sweet 16 match against Rowan University Saturday afternoon with the winner advancing to Sunday's Elite Eight game at 3:00 p.m. The sectional rounds are being hosted by the University of Lynchburg and mark the team's first Sweet 16 appearance since 2017.

The team is coming off a strong start to their postseason campaign, taking down Maryville 3-1 in the first round and beating host school Hampden-Sydney 3-0 on Sunday to advance to the Sweet 16. This is the Eagles' fourth appearance in the Round of 16 in program history and the second under head coach Cory Greiner, making Greiner the first coach in program history to take the team to multiple Sweet 16 appearances during their tenure.

Volleyball:
Emory volleyball will begin their postseason run Thursday as they return to Boston to take on Springfield College in round one of the NCAA tournament. The Eagles have made the tournament for 29 consecutive seasons, marking the second longest active streak in Division III behind Juniata.

The Eagles are coming off their weekend at the UAA Championships in Boston where they went 1-2 on the weekend, beating Brandeis 3-1 but falling to NYU on Saturday and Case Western Reserve on Sunday in the fifth-place match. The Eagles ended the regular season with a 19-7 overall record and went 5-2 in conference play.

Men's and Women's Cross Country:
Men's and women's cross country are headed to Spartanburg, SC for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet. The men's race will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the women will race at 11 a.m. This marks the 20th consecutive year that the Eagles have earned a bid to the NCAA Championship.

The women's team earned an automatic bid to the National Championship after winning the NCAA South Regional last weekend in a crowded field of 26 teams. The women's squad also had seven All-Region selections in Madison TiaffayElizabeth CsikaiDavis JohnsonPayton FlemingCameron GuptaAyla Cooke and Ashley Clyman as they all finished in the top 20. Tiaffay, Johnson and Fleming all earned PRs and Csikai ran her season best.

The men's squad will send two individual qualifiers to the National Championship as John Urciuoli and Ryan Van de Berghe qualified this weekend with their top ten finishes. The team also had five All-Region selections in Urciuoli, Van de Berghe, Amos PresNikhil Makker and Dalton Lowery as they all placed among the top 30 finishers.

Men's Basketball:
Emory men's basketball is headed to Greensboro, NC on Saturday to take on Guilford at 2:00 p.m.

The Eagles had a split weekend at the Midway Classic in Chicago, falling to Trinity (TX) 78-90 but beating UC-Santa Cruz 96-78. Sunday's game saw senior Ben Pearce put up a career-high 35 points along with double-digit scoring performances from Jair Knight, Mario Awasum and AJ Harris.

Women's Basketball:
The No. 19 ranked Emory women's basketball will stay at home this week as they take on Rhodes Sunday afternoon and Agnes Scott Tuesday afternoon.

The team hosted the Emory Tip Off Classic last weekend and went 2-0 on the weekend to remain undefeated on the season so far, taking down No. 21 Randolph-Macon 68-59 and defeating Dickinson 82-55. In the Randolph-Macon matchup, freshman Tatum Olson led the squad with 18 points in her first home match as an Eagle. Fellow freshman Mia Strazza and junior Mary Mullinax also had double-digit performances as they each put up 14 points on the day. The junior/freshman duo of Mullinax and Olson led the Eagles to victory in Sunday's match as they put up 19 points apiece.
