Men's Golf Has Historic Day 1 at Wabash Fall Invitational

The Eagles shot the third-lowest team round in program history with a 271 in round 2.

Men's Golf had a historic day one at the Wabash Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, recording the third-lowest round in program history with their 271 in round two and shooting 555 across the first two rounds. The Eagles are in first place heading into round three and all five athletes competing for Emory are in the top 20 of the individual standings.

In first place on the player leaderboard and leading the Eagles is junior Kevin Mu who shot 134 across both rounds to start the tournament. Mu had a consistent first round, carding only one bogey on the front nine and carding four birdies on the back to shoot a 69 in round one. Round two was a similar story for Mu, carding only one birdie on the front nine but carding an impressive six birdies on the back nine to shoot 65, making it Mu's second-best career round and tying the third-lowest score by a player in team history.

Following close behind him is senior Brian Hanson who shot 138 total to find himself in second place on the player leaderboard. Hanson also had a consistent first round, carding two bogeys on the front nine followed by one bogey and two birdies on the back nine to shoot a 73. He turned up the heat in round two, carding five birdies across the round and carding an eagle on the 12th hole to shoot a 65, tying his personal best and tying with Mu for the third-lowest round by a player in team history.

Behind Hanson is graduate student Pearse Lucas who sits in 14th place on the leaderboard after shooting 143 on the day. Lucas had a turbulent opening round, carding four bogeys on the front nine and two on the back nine but carding an eagle on the 12th hole and closing out his round with two birdies to bring his round one score to 74. Lucas had a more consistent second round, carding only one birdie on the front nine but shooting three on the back nine along with a bogey on the 15th hole to shoot a 69.

Right behind Lucas is sophomore Zach Pelzar, who shot 144 across both rounds and is in 15th place going into round three. Pelzar carded three bogeys on the front nine in his first round but responded and carded three birdies on the back nine to shoot a 72. The beginning of his second round was consistent, carding birdies on holes one and nine, but found himself in a rough patch on the back nine carding two birdies, a double bogey and two bogeys to shoot a 72 for the round.

Rounding things out for the Eagles is junior Brady Lagendyk who is in 17th place with a total of 145 on the day. Lagendyk had a rocky opening round, carding two birdies and three bogeys, but responded by carding two birdies, a bogey and an eagle on the 17th hole to shoot a 70 for the round. In round two, things started rough for the junior with a double bogey on the third hole, but he found his footing carding three bogeys and two birdies to conclude the round, shooting a 75 to end day one.

The Eagles will have a shotgun start tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. to begin the third and final round of the tournament.
