Men's Tennis began their weekend at the ITA South Regional on Friday and dominated the competition, going 14-1 in singles and 6-1 in doubles across the main rounds.
In Singles, sophomore
Ruilin Feng won his round of 64 match and his round of 32 match in straight sets, shutting out his first opponent 6-0 in both sets and going 6-3, 6-2 in his second matchup. Fellow sophomore
Ajay Kartik also won both of his matches in straight sets, only giving up one point to his opponent in his round of 64 matchup and going 6-1 and 6-2 in his round of 32 face off. Following him was freshman
Daniel Kim, who took his round of 64 match in straight sets. Kim's round of 32 match went to a tiebreaker after he took set one 6-4 and dropped set two 2-6, ultimately winning the tiebreak 11-9 to advance to the round of 16. Fellow freshman
Matthew Johnstone followed him, taking both matches in straight sets. Johnstone won his round of 64 match by going 6-3 and 6-2 and only allowed one point from his opponent in both sets of his round of 32 match. After him was junior
Ryan Nash, who won both matches in straight sets, going 6-2 in both sets of his round of 64 match and going 6-1 and 6-2 in his round of 32 matchup. Senior
John Lasanajak took his round of 64 match in straight sets but took set one of his round of 32 match to a tiebreak. Lasanajak won the tiebreak 9-7 and took the second set 7-5 to advance to the round of 16. Senior
Dean Kamenev rounded things out on the singles side for the Eagles with straight-set wins in both of his matches to advance to the round of 16.
In Doubles, the senior/sophomore duo of Kamenev and Feng took their round of 32 match against Covenant in straight sets, but dropped their second match against Hendrix College in a 6-8 tiebreak. The senior/freshman duo of Lasanajak and Kim won both matches on the day to advance to the quarterfinal, winning their first match 8-5 and their second match 8-6. Following them was the sophomore/freshman duo of Kartik and Johnstone who won both of their matches 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinal.
On the doubles slate in B draw for the Eagles was the freshman duo of
Victor Sandru and
Caleb Zimmerman, who dropped their match against North Carolina Wesleyan 4-8. Up next, Â the duo of Lai and Nash took both their matches in straight sets to make it to the quarterfinal of the B slate.
In singles of the B2 draw, Lai took his first match in straight sets and earned a bye for the round of 32 to take him to the round of 16. Zimmerman was up next, taking his first match in straight sets and moving on directly to the quarterfinal due to opponent withdrawal. Sophomore
Sammy Nieder followed him, winning both of his matches in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinal. Up next was sophomore
Alec Anghel, who won both of his matches in straight sets.
Matches begin tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with doubles quarterfinal matches.Â
