Men's Golf Concludes Day 1 of Chick-fil-A Invitational

The Eagles are in ninth place heading into round three.

Emory Men's Golf concluded day one of the Chick fil A Invitational on Monday afternoon, landing in ninth place after two rounds with a total team score of 606.

Sophomore Tim Richter led the Eagles, with a total of 144 on the day. Richter was consistent across his first round, carding three birdies and four bogeys on the round to shoot a 73. His second round went similarly, carding four birdies and three bogeys on the round to shoot a 71 and end in tenth place going into day two.

Behind him was fellow sophomore Rafe Cochran, who landed in 49th place after shooting 152 on the day. Cochran had a rough start, carding four bogeys, a birdie and a double bogey on the front nine, but found his rhythm, making par on each of the back nine holes apart from a bogey on 11. He continued that energy into his second round, carding six birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey across the round to end day one.

Only one shot behind Cochran was junior Dustin Miller, who shot 153 on the day. Things started rocky for the junior, carding two bogeys and three double bogeys on the front nine in round one, but he picked things up on the back nine, carding only two bogeys and four birdies on the back nine. Miller improved by five shots in the second round, carding five bogeys and three birdies on the round to shoot a 74 and end the day in 49th place.

Up next was freshman Dru Devata in his stroke play debut for the Eagles. Devata had a really consistent day across both his rounds, shooting five bogeys and a double bogey across the whole first round to shoot a 79. His second round improved by one shot, carding four bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie across his second round to shoot 157 on the day and land in 70th overall.

Rounding out the scorecard for the Eagles was senior Parker Shimp, who shot 163 on the day. Shimp had a great start to round one, making par on each hole apart from a birdie on four and a double bogey on nine. That momentum shifted in the second round as the senior carded three double bogeys, three bogeys and a birdie to shoot 82 on the round. He improved by one shot in his second round, carding five bogeys, two double bogeys and a birdie across the second round to end the day in 84th on the leaderboard.

Competing as an individual in his Eagles debut was freshman Jack Nicoletta, who shot 160 on the day to land in 76th place. Nicoletta had a turbulent first round, carding six bogeys, four double bogeys and four birdies on the round to shoot an 84. The freshman improved by eight shots in his second round, carding five bogeys, four birdies and a double bogey on the round to shoot a 76 and close out day one.

The Eagles will play round three tomorrow morning to conclude the tournament.
