Men's Golf Plays Opening Rounds of Tartan Invitational

The Eagles sit in second place going into day two.

Men's Golf began play at the Tartan Invitational in Ligonier, PA Monday morning, shooting 295 in both rounds as a team to put themselves in second place heading into day two. The tournament is being played at Laurel Valley Golf Club.

At the top of the leaderboard for the Eagles is graduate transfer Pearse Lucas, who shot 74 in the first round and 72 in the second to solidify his spot in sixth place. Lucas had a strong front nine in round one, carding three birdies, but struggled in the back nine carding three bogeys and a double bogey. Lucas bounced back and had a great second round, opening with a bogey on the first hole but coming back to make par on the next six holes, followed by a birdie and a double bogey to close out the front nine. Lucas' best holes of the day came on the back nine in round two, making par on every hole apart from two birdies on 13 and 18.

Close behind is junior Kevin Mu, who shot 74 in round one and 73 in round two to find himself tied for seventh place on the leaderboard. Mu had a solid start to the first round, shooting three bogeys and two birdies. On the back nine, Mu made par on every hole except for a birdie on 12 and a bogey on 14 to close out his round.

Following him is sophomore Zach Pelzar, who shot 150 on the day between his two rounds to sit in 21st on the leaderboard. Pelzar had a tumultuous start to his first round, carding three bogeys and a double bogey on the first four holes and closing out the front nine with a bogey on nine. Things picked up for the sophomore on the back nine, shooting two birdies and two bogeys to close out round one with 78. In round two, Pelzar had a great front nine, making par on every hole apart from two birdies on holes one and six and a bogey on five. He closed out his second round with two birdies, a double bogey and a bogey to shoot a 72 for the round and 150 on the day.

Behind Pelzar is senior Brian Hanson, who is in 37th place after shooting 73 in round one and 80 in round two. Hanson had a steady opening round, carding three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey across the entire round. Things got rocky for the junior in the second round where he carded nine bogeys on the round and a birdie on 18 to end the second round.
