The Emory University track and field program saw another day of competition at the Samford Invitational on Saturday afternoon competing in both track and field events.
Starting in field events for the women were the pole vaulters with sophomore
Hannah Riley taking a fourth place finish with a height of 3.41m. Freshmen
Erin Makhanian (3.11m) and
Emerson Sobich (2.96m) also competed in the event finishing eighth and 14
th respectively. Fellow freshman
Jeanette Hydukovich notched a distance of 11.50m in the shot put good for a sixth place finish while freshman
Abigail Roberts finished 25
th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.61m and senior
Kylie Hanson (10.16) took 29
th.
In track events for the women, more top-30 finishes were seen with the first coming from freshman
Melayna Pettigrew in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.95. Sophomore
Sydney Holden followed with a 19
th place finish in the 400m dash running a 1:02.20. Teammates
Jenna Daly (5:27.65) and
Sophia Powell (5:35.00) placed 15
th and 21
st in the mile event while freshman
Arden Gray finished the distance events with a 14
th place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 11:18.69. The women's 4x400m relay group ended the day with a seventh place finish running a 4:08.68.
Starting on the field for the men was junior
Steven Ditelberg who took a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.26m. Freshman
Ari Klasky placed 13
th in the weight throw with a distance of 15.08m and took a 12th place finish in the shot put with a 13.26m mark. Sophomore
Rohan Vasandani also competed in the event with a distance of 11.47m taking 30
th.
The duo of freshman
Ben Olvey (8.99) and senior
William Gossett (9.68) started things on the track finishing 21
st and 30
th respectively in the 60m Hurdles followed by a 26
th place finish in the 200m run from sophomore
Theodore Drye (22.96). Senior
Ben Zamler opened his 2025 season with a 20
th place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.81 and later finished 10
th in the mile with a mark of 4:24.75. Fellow senior
Turner Goetsch also competed in the mile taking 20
th running a 4:31.90. Finishing the distance events was junior
Matthew McClure (8:59.55) and freshman
Carsen Valenta (9:18.98) finishing 15
th and 23
rd in the 3000m run.
The Eagles will take a break until the end of the month where they will compete at the University of South Carolina on Friday, January 31.
