The Emory University women's swimming & diving team was back in the pool for its first competition of the season on Saturday, taking on Georgia Tech across town at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Despite falling 216-79 to their Division I opposition, the Eagles came out of the gates fast with four NCAA B Cuts dropping as well as one event victory.
The freshman class shined for the Eagles on Saturday as a trio of newcomers recorded NCAA qualifying marks and won an event for the Blue & Gold. Allison Greeneway was an event winner in the 200 IM and picked up one of her two NCAA B Cuts with her winning time of 2:05.10. She previously secured a NCAA B Cut with her second place nod in the 100 Fly at 55.79. Adding NCAA B Cuts was rookie Elodie Mitchell in the 200 Fly (3rd, 2:04.13) and Caitlin Crysel in the 200 IM (2nd, 2:05.41).
The trio rounded out their impressive Emory debuts with three more top-five finishes with Greeneway in the 100 Backstroke (4th, 57.84), Crysel in the 50 Freestyle (4th, 23.93) and Mitchell in the 500 Freestyle (3rd, 5:08.57).
Additional top performers on Saturday were junior Morgan Main in the 1000 Freestyle (3rd, 10:41.92), freshman Sophia Joos in the 100 Breaststroke (4th, 1:06.14) and 200 Breaststroke (4th, 2:23.79), junior Isabel Huang in the 200 Backstroke (5th, 2:07.36), freshman Maddi Grant in the 1-meter (5th, 246.53) and 3-meter (6th, 223.13) dives, and sophomore Natalie Boorjian and freshman Stephanie Lee in the 100 Freestyle (T-6th, 54.14).
Furthermore, the Eagles' quartet of Crysel, Huang, graduate student Megan Jungers and sophomore Katie Cohen placed third at 1:46.28 as Emory's top team in the 200 Medley Relay, and in the 400 Medley Relay, Boorjian, Lee, Huang and graduate student Penelope Helm led the way at 3:36.06 to touch fifth.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday with another dual meet against Queens University of Charlotte at 11:00 AM in North Carolina while the divers will take part in competition at West Florida.
