The No. 2 ranked Emory women's golf team began play in the Montgomery Women's Intercollegiate event, shooting a team score of 298 (+10) to find themselves in fourth out of 12 teams heading into day two. Mary Hardin-Baylor is the leader in the clubhouse after shooting a 291 (+3) in the opening round. A pair of UAA-foes round out the top-three, with Carnegie Mellon carding a 292 (+4) and WashU turning in a 297 (+9). The event was held at the Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
Fresh off winning the UAA Tournament's MVP award, freshman
Zimo Li kept it rolling on Sunday. The rookie carded a 71 (-1) after tallying two birdies and an eagle to negate three bogeys. Li was even on the front nine before bogeying the 12
th hole to set her at one over. Yet, an eagle on the 18
th hole, a Par 5, saw her finish the day one stroke under par. She was one of just two players in the field to record an eagle on the hole. She'll enter Monday in 5
th place individually and six strokes behind the leader, Piedmont's Erin Donovan who shot a near-perfect 66 (-6) on Sunday.
A pair of Eagles, senior
Sharon Mun and sophomore
Carys Code, each turned in a 75 (+3) to find themselves tied at 15
th on the leaderboard. Mun had a rocky start to her day, notching two bogeys to open her round but bounced back with a birdie on the third hole. She was two over on the front nine before shooting one over on the back. Code got her day started shooting one under in her first four holes. Yet, a stretch of three bogeys from holes five through seven inflated her score. She reigned it in, though, knocking in a birdie the following hole to stop the bleeding. She went on to shoot two over par on the back nine.
Sophomore
Esther Jung was next, shooting a 77 (+5) on Sunday. Jung was impressive, knocking in three birdies and just three bogeys. However, a double-bogey on the sixth hole and a triple-bogey on the eighth raised her score. Jung will enter day two sitting in 21
st on the leaderboard.
Rounding out the team's scoring was freshman
Covi Yan. Yan shot a 79 (+7) after tapping in one birdie along with six bogeys and a double bogey. She finds herself in 33
rd heading into Monday.
Sophomore
Derica Chiu competed as an individual, shooting an 86 (+14) and sitting tied for 55
th entering the final day.
The Eagles will look to make a surge up the leaderboard during tomorrow's final round. The final round will get started at 10:30 AM (EST) with a shotgun start.
