Eagles Take Second Place Finish at UAA Outdoor Championships

The Emory University men's track and field program took home the silver at the 2024 UAA Outdoor Championships on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Eagles finished with 180.5 points behind Carnegie Mellon who took home the title with 218 points. The Eagles saw nine individual All-UAA Performances on Sunday afternoon while the 4x400 and 4x100 relay groups set a new UAA meet record and finished first in the event.

Starting the day on the field was the men's high jump were sophomore Henry Brandstadter (1.96m), junior Geoff Point-du-Jour (1.91m) and freshman Andrei Radjenovic (1.91m) who all earned points for the Eagles with their third, fourth and sixth place finishes. Freshman Olivier Jawornicki earned All-UAA status finishing third in the javelin with a distance of 54.29m.

Others with top finishes in field events were sophomore Simon Stumbris in the triple jump (13.52m, 7th) and senior Kenya Sei in the discus throw (40.78m, 6th).

The track events started strong with the 4x100 relay group of graduate student Aiden Gilbert, juniors Sam Ryba and Jackson Price and Brandstadter taking first with a time of 41.18 seconds. Senior Spencer Watry and junior Marcus Cheema followed in the 1500m taking second and sixth respectively.

Freshman Theodore Drye claimed the UAA title in the 400m running a 47.84 while sophomore Bryce Wurster took home third for All-UAA status. Senior Dawit Dean took home the gold in the 800m with a time of 1:51.15 and Watry followed right behind with a time of 1:51.17 for a second place finish. Also earning a UAA title was Price in the 200m after running a time of 21.82 seconds.

In the 100m, Brandstadter (10.95, 2nd) and Ryba (10.96, 3rd) both earned All-UAA honors for their finishes.

Others earning points for the Eagles on the track was freshman Jayden Bai in the 110m hurdles (15.92, 6th) and 400m hurdles (1:01.15, 8th), freshman Graham Greene (49.96, 5th) and Gilbert (50.20, 7th) in the 400m, Cheema in the 800m (1:55.23, 7th), Ryba in the 200m (22.40, 6th) and graduate student Ethan Thompson in the 5000m (15:12.74, 6th).

Finishing the day was the 4x400 relay group of Drye, Greene, Wurster and Dean taking first and setting the UAA meet record with a time of 3:14.40.

The Eagles will travel to the Lee Last Chance meet on Saturday, May 11 before turning their attention to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 23 at Coastal Carolina.
