The Emory University men's swimming and diving team took part in the second day of the Denison Invitational on Friday evening, posting 14 NCAA B Cuts, one individual event win, as well as senior
Crow Thorsen setting a new program record in the 400 IM. The strong performance on day two saw the Eagles cut into Denison's lead. The Eagles find themselves in second of four teams with 1,284 points, trailing Denison's 1,366. The University of Indianapolis is in third with 1,098.5 points and WashU in fourth with 759.5. The event was held at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.
Thorsen's dazzling performance came in the first individual event of the evening, the 400 IM. The senior raced to a second-place finish with a time of 3:49.21 to break his own program record by nearly two seconds. The time was also good for an NCAA B Cut.
The Eagles got things started with a pair of impressive performances worthy of B Cuts in the 200 Medley Relay. Seniors
Adam Braunschweig,
Jeff Echols and
Dylan Yin alongside junior
Henri Bonnault took second in the event, posting a time of 1:27.43. Coming in close behind was a team of freshmen
Zachary Spicer and
Satya Agashiwala alongside senior
Johnny Bradshaw and junior
Caden Bjornstad with a time of 1:29.58.
The individual performances were impressive as well, with Yin and Echols following up Thorsen's record breaking time with a pair of B Cuts in the 100 Fly. Yin finished fourth with a time of 48.17 and Echols in fifth with a time of 48.27.
The Eagles saw three Eagles record individual B Cuts in three separate events to contribute to the strong night. Sophomore
Hayden Tupper, senior
Alexander Pollack, and junior
Sven Becker all turned in strong times in the 200 Free. Tupper was second overall with a time of 1:38.67, Becker fourth with a time of 1:39.15, and Pollack in fifth with a time of 1:39.22.
The 100 Breast was another strong showing for Emory, with Bonnault coming in second with a time of 52.94, Bradshaw in sixth with a time of a time of 54.60, and senior
Liyang Sun in seventh with a time of 54.61.
Spicer recorded Emory's lone event win of the day in the 100 Back, racing to a 48.51 finish. Coming in behind him were senior
Nolan Lahmann in third with a time of 48.84, and Braunschweig in seventh with a time of 49.19.
The Eagles will look to usurp Denison on the event's third and final day tomorrow. The Eagles will be back in the pool tomorrow starting at 10:00 AM for prelims before starting the finals at 6:00 PM.
