The Emory University men's swimming and diving program began competition at the Denison Invitational on Thursday and find themselves in second out of four teams with 491.5 points, trailing Denison who sits in first with 626 points. The University of Indanapolis, an NCAA Division II institution, sits in third while WashU is in fourth after day one. The men compiled two event wins and seven NCAA B Cuts on the opening day. The event was hosted at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatic Center in Granville, Ohio.
Senior
Crow Thorsen stole the show for the Eagles, posting the lone individual event win in the 500 Free with a time of 4:25.75, good for a B Cut. He joined in on a relay event win in the 400 Medley alongside seniors
Jeff Echols and
Adam Braunschweig as well as junior
Henri Bonnault. The foursome turned in a time of 3:13.21, also good for an NCAA B Cut.
The Eagles saw two other groups finish in the top-five in the 400 IM Relay, both posting B Cuts as well. Seniors
Liyang Sun and
Dylan Yin paired with freshmen
Zachary Spicer and
Colin Zexter for a second-place finish with a time of 3:13.50 and an NCAA B Cut. Coming in fifth was seniors
Nolan Lahmann and
Johnny Bradshaw with juniors
Patrick Horton and
Caden Bjornstad with a time of 3:15.71.
The Eagles were strong in the 200 Free Relay as well, with two more foursomes posting B Cuts. Yin, Zexter, Bradshaw, and Bjornstad finished third with a time of 1:20.49 while Bonnault, Lahmann, Thorsen, and sophomore
Hayden Tupper finished fifth with a time of 1:21.41.
Yin earned his third B Cut of the day in the 50 Free, finishing third with a time of 20.30.
The Eagles will be back in the pool tomorrow starting at 10:00 AM for prelims before starting the finals at 6:00 PM.
