The Emory University men's swimming & diving team opened the Emory Fall Invitational with a strong showing on Friday, ending the day with 364 points to lead the four-team field.
The Eagles secured first place finishes in eight of the nine events contested on the evening and registered a total of 11 NCAA B Cuts.
Senior Liyang Sun was one of Emory's top performers during the opening session as he was multi-event winner to lead the Eagles. In the first individual event of the night, Sun took the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.54 before he tied junior Henri Bonnault for top honors in the 100 Breaststroke at 53.77.
Senior Crow Thorsen was the Eagles' leading finisher in two events with a first place showing in the 500 Freestyle at 4:25.68 prior to taking third in the 100 Freestyle at 44.84.
Freshman Zachary Spicer led a trio of Eagles in the top spots in the 200 Backstroke with his NCAA B Cut of 1:47.05. Elsewhere, senior Jeff Echols excelled in the 200 Butterfly as he took first with a time of 1:47.75 and freshman Solly Berkenwald was the top scorer on the 3-meter board at 362.15.
Emory swept both relay events on the evening as well with senior Dylan Yin, junior Caden Bjornstad, senior Johnny Bradshaw and junior Patrick Horton posting a winning mark of 1:21.63 in the 200 Freestyle, and in the 400 Medley Relay, Spicer, Bonnault, Echols and Thorsen flexed with a top time of 3:14.56.
To go along with the event wins, the Eagles added second place showings from senior Nolan Lahmann who celebrated his birthday with a time of 1:47.41 in the 200 Backstroke and in the 400 Medley Relay, Sun, Horton, Yin and senior Adam Braunschweig came in silver position at 3:16.27.
The Emory Fall Invitational will conclude on Saturday with session two getting underway at 11:00 AM at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
