The Emory University swimming & diving teams opened their weekend across town by sending a group of swimmers to Georgia Tech to compete against members from Michigan, Auburn, Florida State and the host Yellow Jackets in the three-day meet.
The first day of competition saw Emory athletes compete in four events, advancing a pair of Eagles to the finals and saw one NCAA B Cut posted during the two sessions.
On the women's side, sophomore Pooja Hemige and senior Mollie Folk highlighted the day as they both advanced to the finals in the 200 IM. In morning prelims, Hemige dropped a NCAA B Cut of 2:04.75 to place 16th while Folk was 20th with a time of 2:14.70. In the evening session, the duo went back-to-back in 17th and 18th position with Hemige touching at 2:11.88 and Folk at 2:12.71.
In the 50 Freestyle, the Emory women entered seven in the event and had junior Claire DePiero led the way with her time of 23.89. Sophomore Sammy McClintock went under 24 seconds as well, finishing at 23.99.
On the men's side, freshman Andrew Delzer paced the Eagles in the 200 IM with his mark of 1:56.86 as he, classmate Ryley Yoo and sophomore Harry Kerscher went back-to-back in the 37-38-39th spots.
Additionally, freshman Connor McHugh was the top finisher in the 50 Free, taking 36th at 21.15.
The Georgia Tech Invitational continues on Saturday with prelims getting underway at 10:00 AM and finals set to begin at 5:30 PM.
