The No. 2 ranked Emory University women's golf team won its third tournament of the season on Tuesday as the Eagles captured the Tartan Invitational crown in Farmington, Pennsylvania. The 36-hole tournament was played on the Mystic Rock course at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
The Eagles have now gone three-for-three in their tournament appearances this fall, having previously won the UAA Championships and the MCC Intercollegiate. At the Tartan Invitational, Emory finished with a two-round total of 594 to win the tournament by five strokes over No. 7 ranked WashU. The No. 1 ranked and host Carnegie Mellon University rounded out the top three with it's A-squad recording a score of 600 (306-294).
Sophomore Esther Jung continued to impress for the Eagles at the tournament as she matched her first round total of 71 to finish second overall at 142. Jung registered six birdies and seven pars in the second round as she was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also closed out her day two strong with birdies on three of her final four holes to help clinch the win for the Eagles.
Senior Ellen Dong had a standout afternoon as well for the Eagles as she carded a 73 which included a team-low 33 on the front nine. Dong tallied four birdies and 10 pars as she moved up two spots to end her two rounds in a tie for fifth with her score of 149 (76-73). Freshman Zimo Li joined her at the fifth position as the rookie closed out her tournament with a score of 76 on Tuesday.
Freshman Covi Yan joined her Emory counterparts in the top-10 as she placed 10th overall on the player leaderboard as she competed as an individual. Yan posted a day two score of 78 to give her 151 across her 36 holes.
Sophomore Carys Code and senior Sharon Mun rounded out the Emory performers in the team scorers with Code tying for 14th and Mun finishing in a tie for 30th. Code fired a third-best 75 for the Eagles during the second round to move up six spots. She recorded three birdies and eight pars. Mun had eight pars as well as three straight birdies on the back nine to finish her second round with a 79, one stroke better than her Monday total.
Next up for the Eagles will be the Golfweek October Classic in Destin, Florida from October 13-15.
