#4 Men’s Golf Wraps Up Play at White Sands Collegiate; Three Eagles Finish in Top-Half of Division I Field

The No. 4 ranked Emory men's golf team concluded play at the White Sands Collegiate on Sunday, shooting a 289 (+1) to bring the team's three round score to 864 (E). With the score, the Eagles finished 10th out of 12 teams, being the only non-Division I team at the event. Emory tied for sixth for the most birdies at the event, compiling 55 over the three days.

The College of Charleston won the tournament with a dominant 814 (-50) over three rounds. Charleston's Kieron Van Wyk was the individual winner, shooting a stellar 195 (-21) over 54 holes. The event was hosted at the Ocean Golf Club's Par-72, 6,843-yard course in Paradise Island, The Bahamas.

The Eagles saw three golfers finish inside of the top-half of all individuals as well with sophomore Brady Lagendyk and seniors Tony Li and Josh Qian all having a very impressive weekend.

Lagendyk led the way for Emory all tournament, shooting two straight rounds under par to open the weekend. He faltered a bit on Sunday, shooting a 74 (+2) with four birdies and as many bogeys before adding a double bogey on his 15th hole. He went on to finish the event with a 215 (-1) and tied for 29th.

Li was very strong on Sunday, recording a team-high 14 pars on the day. He recorded two bogeys on his front nine but knocked in two birdies towards the end of his round to shoot a 72 (E) and also finish tied for 29th with a three-round score of 215 (-1).

Qian had a rough go to start his morning, opening his round with a double bogey. From then on, he was locked in, though, shooting one under par over his final 17 holes and finish his round with a 73 (+1). This brought his score to 216 (E) for the three rounds, finishing tied for 32nd.

Junior Brian Hanson had his best round of the weekend with the Eagles' only score under par on Sunday. The California native shot a 70 (-2), with four birdies and two bogeys in his round. Hanson finished with a three-round score of 225 (+9) and would finish tied for 56th.

Senior Michael Burry replicated his second-round score with another 74 (+2) on Sunday. He recorded four birdies and as many bogeys with a double bogey mixed in to keep his score above par. The senior finished the event with a 227 (+11) and tied for 60th place.

Sophomore Kevin Mu competed at the event as an individual, shooting a 74 (+2) on Sunday. The sophomore finished his tournament shooting 220 (+4) after 54 holes. Mu concluded his tournament tied for the fifth most pars of any player at the event with 37, contributing for him placing tied for 48th.

This concludes the Eagles' fall schedule. Emory's fall was highlighted by a UAA Championship as well as a team win at the Flower City Preview in September. Emory will now take the winter off before resuming competition in early March at the Savannah Invitational.
