The No. 1 ranked Emory University men's swimming & diving team put forth a dominating performance Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, sweeping all 16 events to defeat the Sewanee Tigers 237-43 victory in front of a packed house that included fans, family and alumni on Alumni Weekend.
Senior Jeff Echols excelled for the Eagles during the final dual meet of the semester as he was one of five Eagles to win multiple events and recorded both of the team's NCAA B Cuts on the afternoon. Echols swept the Butterfly events with NCAA qualifying marks of 1:49.20 in the 200 and 47.95 in the 100.
Joining Echols in the ranks of multi-event winners on Saturday were sophomore Joao Lapagesse in the 1000 Freestyle (10:09.17) and 500 Freestyle (4:47.29), senior Alexander Pollack in the 200 Freestyle (1:42.91) and 200 Backstroke (1:52.46), senior Crow Thorsen in the 100 Freestyle (45.46) and 200 IM (1:51.96) and freshman Solly Berkenwald in the 1-meter (289.87) and 3-meter (306.07) diving events.
Additional winners for the Eagles came from senior Adam Braunschweig in the 100 Backstroke (50.11), junior Henri Bonnault in the 100 Breaststroke (55.31), junior Patrick Horton in the 50 Freestyle (21.31) and senior Liyang Sun in the 200 Breaststroke (2:02.40).
In the relay events, Emory saw its C team consisting of Bonnault, Horton, freshman Colin Zexter and sophomore Hayden Tupper win the 200 Medley with a time of 1:30.36, and in the 200 Freestyle, the D unit of Zexter, Horton, senior Johnny Bradshaw and junior Jeff George came through first at 1:24.10.
The Eagles will be off next weekend prior to hosting its Fall Invitational on November 8-9 when Carsen-Newman, Wingate, Georgia Southern and Cumberlands visit the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center.
