The No. 2 ranked Emory men's golf team wrapped up play at the Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday afternoon, playing the third and final round of the event. The Eagles shot a 287 (+3) as a unit to bring their three-round score to 865 (+13) and finish 14
th of 24 teams. After firing a dominant 822 (-30), #6 Washington & Lee won the event with a seven-stroke cushion over second-place #21 Sewanee. The event was held at The Raven Golf Club's Par-71, 6,623-yard course in Sandestin, Florida.
As a collective, the Eagles finished with 156 pars and 48 birdies over their three rounds.
The top finisher for Emory was junior
Brian Hanson, shooting a 72 (+1) on Tuesday to bring his three-round score to 216 (+3) and finish tied for 44
th. Hanson's final round got off to a tough start, double bogeying the first hole and bogeying the second. The following 16 holes were dominant, though, tapping in for four birdies and two bogeys to finish just one over par on Tuesday.
Senior
Tony Li climbed 17 spots on the leader board on Tuesday when he shot a 70 (-1) to bring his tournament score to 218 (+5). Li knocked in five birdies and four bogeys to finish Tuesday one under par. He went on to finish tied for 56
th at the event.
Li's classmate,
Michael Burry, also finished his three rounds with a 218 (+5) after shooting a 73 (+2) on Tuesday. Burry was even with three birdies and as many bogeys through 17 holes, yet a double bogey on the 18
th hole saw his score inflated to two over par on the day. He finished tied with Li for 56
th at the Golfweek October Classic.
Senior
Josh Qian had another strong round on Tuesday with a 72 (+1). After shooting a 77 (+6) in his opening round, Qian shot just one over par over his next 36 holes to leave him at a three-round score of 220 (+7) and finish tied for 71
st.
Freshman
Zach Pelzar rounds out the scoring for Emory, shooting an 80 (+9) on Tuesday. This brings his three-round total to 225 (+12) and sees him tie for 98
th.
The Eagles will be back on the course next week for the Chick-fil-A Invitational. The event will consist of 36 holes at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia. Golfers will tee off in their first round on Monday, October 21
st and conclude on Tuesday, October 22
nd.
