Swim and Dive Wins Six Events in Dual Meet Against Georgia Tech

The Eagles swimming and diving teams were back in the pool on Friday evening for a dual meet with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Eagles won six events in the meet, five of which coming from the men's side. The Yellow Jackets bested the Eagles on the men's side 185-113 and on the women's side 219.5-79.5.

The men's team received first-place performances from four different swimmers during the meet against Georgia Tech. Junior Jeff Echols won the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.20 and freshman McKee Thorsen claimed first in the 200 Butterfly, clocking in at 1:50.21. The senior duo of Nicholas Goudie and Jake Meyer also touched first in their events. Goudie dazzled in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.05 and Meyer finished the 100 Breaststroke in 55:68. Goudie was joined in the 200 Freestyle Relay by sophomore Caden Bjornstad, sophomore Patrick Horton, and junior Johnny Bradshaw. The foursome touched first with a time of 1:23.86.

Junior Crow Thorsen finished in the top three of three other events, including the 200 Freestyle (3rd, 1:40.55), the 100 Freestyle (2nd, 45.92), and the 200 IM (2nd, 1:51.74). Horton touched third in the 100 Backstroke (51.04), and Meyer touched third in the 200 Breaststroke (2:04.05).

On the women's side, the Eagles' lone win was in the 100 Backstroke with senior Megan Jungers clocking in at 56.73.

The men also received strong performances from freshman Joao Lapagesse in the 1650 Freestyle (3rd (16:23.63), junior Adam Braunschweig in the 100 Backstroke (2nd, 50.47), junior Liyang Sun in the 100 Breaststroke (55.98), sophomore Will Kohn in the 200 Backstroke (2nd, 1:50.09), and freshman McKee Thorsen in the 100 Butterfly (3rd, 49.96).

The women saw strong showings from a multitude of swimmers, including junior Jada Chatoor in the 1650 Freestyle (2nd, 17:28.58), senior Sloane Donovan in the 1650 Freestyle (3rd, 17:50.08), freshman Meredith Teague in the 200 Freestyle (1:53.88) and 500 Freestyle (2nd, 5:06.50), senior Penelope Helm in the 200 Freestyle (1:54.43), freshman Natalie Boorjian in the 50 Freestyle (3rd, 24.45), sophomore Jane Sanderson in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.40), and junior Rosalie Gaudiani touched first for the Eagles in the 200 IM (5th, 2:09.86).

The relay teams also fared well on Friday evening, with the men's 400 Medley Relay consisting of Braunschweig, Meyer, Echols, and Goudie finishing 2nd with a time of 3:19.90. The women's 200 Freestyle Relay made up of sophomore Penny Celtnieks, freshman Maren McDonald, senior Leaya Ma, and Boorjian finished third with a time of 1:36.45.

On the boards, sophomore Ren Watt finished second in the 1 meter (277.2) and third in the 3 meter (287.18).

The Eagles will hit the road next week for a dual meet against Birmingham-Southern. The meet will get started at 10:00 AM next Saturday, October 21st.
