Box Score 2 The No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team opened University Athletic Association play on Saturday by posting two wins at the league's Round Robin I. The Eagles swept both Brandeis (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) and Rochester (25-12, 25-9, 25-8), raising their overall slate to 10-1.
Emory closed out the Brandeis contest hitting .293 (42-15—92) compared to BU's -.040 (18-22—101), while also owning a wide 41-24 advantage in digs. Junior Leah Saunders topped all players with 13 kills, hitting .579 (13-2—219) in the process, while adding a pair of block assists. It represented Saunders' fourth outing of double-figure kills this season. Senior Morgan McKnight turned in an efficient performance, hitting .389 on the strength of 10 terminations (her seventh double-figure effort on the season) and three errors in 18 swings. Freshman middle Amanda Meyer was a formidable presence at the net with a match-leading six (1-5) blocks. Freshman setter Cassie Srb dished out 27 assists and ranked second on the squad with eight digs.
The Eagles' attack was in high gear against Rochester, hitting a season-high .408 (38-7—76) while keeping the Yellowjackets in check at -.063 (11-16—79). Emory spread out the offense with Saunders producing a team-high eight kills to go along with a hitting performance of .400 (8-2—15). Junior Maggie Rimmel totaled six successful attack attempts while McKnight dialed up five. Emory used a strong serving game which resulted in a season-high 12 aces, with Rimmel doling out four and Saunders three. The Eagles finished with 48-24 bulge in digs and were led in that department by senior Elyse Thompson's 21.
Emory closes out UAA Round Robin play on Sunday with a noon bout against No. 12-ranked Carnegie Mellon.
