The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team closed out a three-match swing at Middlebury College with a 6-3 loss to the No. 6 host Panthers on Sunday. Middlebury captured its sixth straight match and raised its record to 14-2 after topping the Eagles by a 6-3 score. The loss ended a six-match Emory win streak and dropped its record to 12-5.
Emory opened the weekend with an 8-1 decision over No. 26 Skidmore College on Friday before topping No. 30 Tufts, 5-4, on Saturday.
Against Middlebury, Emory faced a 2-1 deficit after the doubles portion of the contest as junior Rafe Mosetick and freshman David Omsky accounted for the team's point with an 8-2 triumph over Chris Frost and William de Quant at No. 3, the duo's sixth straight victory, raising their spring record to 13-2.
Sophomore Aman Manji drew Emory into a 2-2 tie as he nailed down the opening singles point, notching a 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 6 against Allen Jackson. However, Middlebury upped its advantage to 4-2 after emerging victorious at No. 5 and 1, respectively. Junior Rafe Mosetick clawed to a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, verdict over Palmer Campbell at No. 3, narrowing the Eagles' deficit to 4-3 while raising his spring slate to 15-1, but Middlebury held off Emory's comeback bid with three-set decisions at the No. 4 and 2 spots.
Mosetick turned in a perfect weekend with a 3-0 effort in both singles and doubles action, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1, outcome against Steven Koulouris of Skidmore followed by a 6-2, 6-2, verdict over Rob Jacobson of Tufts. Mosetick and Omsky helped Emory to 2-1 leads after doubles play against both Skidmore and Tufts with victories at the No. 3 spot.
Emory returns to action Wednesday (Apr. 15) when it plays at No. 28 University of the South.
