The No. 8 ranked Emory University men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Saturday afternoon as the Eagles defeated Covenant and Berry in doubleheader action on the SAAC courts in Atlanta.
The Eagles improve to 7-5 with the pair of victories with Emory downing the Scots 6-1 to start the day before blanking the Vikings by a count of 7-0.
In the first match of the day, the Eagles started the contest by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The tandem of Dean Kamenev/Stefan Karatosic posted a 6-3 result on court two while Ajay Kartik/John Lasanajak had a 6-2 line on court three.
During singles play, Emory claimed match wins on five of the six courts with freshman Daniel Kim winning at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 7-5) followed by Kartik (6-2, 6-3) at No. 3, Matthew Johnstone (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4, Karatosic (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 and Joshua Lai with a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0, on court six.
Following the conclusion of the match, the Eagles went straight into their contest with the visiting Vikings with Emory notching wins in eight of the nine matches contested.
Doubles play was similar to the day's first match with Emory winning on courts two and three. Kamenev and Kim paired for the 6-1 verdict on two while Lai and Lasanajak joined together for a 6-4 decision on three.
In singles, the Eagles completed the clean sweep with six straight set triumphs with the lineup of Kim at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3), Kartik at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), Johnstone at No. 3 (6-4, 6-1), Ryan Nash at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2), Alec Anghel at No. 5 (6-4, 6-2) and Victor Sandru at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3) notching the match sweep.
Emory will be back on its home courts this Thursday with an afternoon tilt against Kalamazoo College starting at 2:00 PM.
