Emory Men's Tennis Opens ITA National Indoors With Win Over Carnegie Mellon

The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened the ITA National Indoor Championships with a quarterfinal-round victory over Carnegie Mellon Friday evening.  The Eagles raised their spring record to 3-0 following a 5-4 triumph over the No. 9 Tartans who fell to 4-3.

Emory jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the No. 3 doubles team of junior Rafe Mosetick and freshman David Omsky and the No. 1 tandem of seniors Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner came away with victories.  After CMU earned its first point at No. 2 doubles, sophomore Josh Goodman gave the Eagles a 3-1 edge following a 6-1, 6-2 verdict over Tommy Cheng at No. 6 singles.   Ruderman put Emory one point away from clinching the match with his come-from-behind 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 verdict vs. Abhishek Alla at No. 1 singles.  After a three-set CMU win at No. 2 singles, Mosetick nailed down the win for Emory by grinding to a 7-6, 7-6 win against Kenny Zhen at No. 3.

Emory continues play at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Saturday with a 3:00 pm (EST) semifinal-round match against No. 5 Washington University (3-0).
