After an 11-day layoff, the No. 4-ranked Emory men's tennis team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, recording a win at home over Washington and Lee. The Eagles won for the seventh time in their last eight outings, and raised their record to 14-5, following a 7-2 decision over the No. 24 Generals who slipped to 12-4.
After seeing W&L earn the first point of the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, senior Jackson Isaacs and sophomore Will Adams evened the score with an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles. The tandem of junior Eric Halpern and sophomore Rafe Mosetick then put Emory ahead for good after topping John Kirby and Jordan Krasner, 8-6, at third doubles.
Adams boosted Emory's advantage to 3-1 after rolling to a 6-0, 6-1, verdict at No. 6 singles, raising his spring record to 12-5. Mosetick's 6-4, 6-4, outcome over Chris Hu at third singles put the Eagles a point away from sealing the match, whereupon senior Nick Szczurek cemented the win, earning a 6-3, 6-4, decision over Brian Krouskos at the No. 5 spot.. The Generals picked up their second point at No. 4 singles, but juniors Alex Ruderman and Eric Halpern came away with Emory's other two points at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Ruderman saw his record move to 16-3 after battling to a 6-4, 7-5, triumph over Taylor Shamshiri, while Halpern clawed his way to a 6-4, 6-7, 10-8, win over Michael Holt.
Emory returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 22, when it hosts Georgia Perimeter in a 3:30 pm start.
